Recipe: Five Spice Fried Peanuts
Here’s an irresistibly moreish snack that is sometimes laid out on Chinese restaurant tables while you’re waiting for your food. In my Chinese Vegan Guide to Five Spice Powder I suggested trying out this flavour pairing. Do take some time to read the guide if you haven’t already.
It’s insanely easy to make these peanuts. You could even substitute the peanuts with other nuts that you have to hand. Let me know if you try this recipe and share your results on Instagram with #CelestialPeach.
Ingredients
1 tbsp vegetable oil or any light oil suitable for frying
1 cup or thereabouts redskin peanuts
1 tsp fine salt
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp five spice powder
Instructions
In a flat-bottomed saucepan, heat the oil to smoking point.
Remove the pan to gently add the peanuts, reduce the heat to medium/high and return to the stove.
Add the remaining salt and spices and stir continuously until the peanuts are fragrant and slightly crispy.
Enjoy.
